1. The rest of the drywall is up!!
and....
2. The first layer of concrete is poured for the shower pan!!!
Seeing the room with walls up and concrete poured is really exciting and gets us steps closer to tiling!!
I pointed out here, that we are building our shower pan step by step following this video:
The hubs installed the drain assembly and used extra felt paper that we had to line the bottom of the shower. That was followed by laying metal lathe on the bottom of the shower pan and securing it with a ton of staples.
**If you've watched the video and notice that he uses felt paper on all the shower walls, under the concrete board, we did not use it and rather we used a plastic liner...either way works, we had extra plastic laying around so we opted to use that and save a few pennies.
Once the lathe was in place and secured, the hubs went ahead and mixed a bag of sandtop mixing Quikrete mortar and got it troweled into the shower pan and leveled out in such a way that there is a slight slope upwards from the drain to the surrounding area.
We're letting it set up for a few days, then the hubs will install the membrane liner, the second layer of concrete, the rest of the concrete board and then we will be ready for tiling!
Can't wait to see what comes next. Tiles & floors.
