Back Hallway Redo

When the hubs and I moved into our house every room was white, but not a soft, nice white.  It was a shiny, annoying white.  What I mean by annoying is that I was annoyed that the hubs and I, along with a few friends we paid with beer, had to prime and paint EVERY room, in our house, FOURTEEN rooms/areas to be exact.

The back hallway was no exception and after a few coats of primer followed by a soft yellow this is what we had.  We also painted our upstairs hallway the same color so it wouldn't look too busy.

If I say so myself it looks a lot better then I remember....but I still wanted to have the back hallway match the hallway going upstairs!

We loved the way it looked and flowed well with the kitchen!  Well... fast forward a few years when we decided to reno our kitchen, which included tearing down lots of lathe and plaster, tiling, adding cabinets, painting, painting and more painting.  The color we chose to paint the walls in the kitchen contrasted too much with the hallway color, so finally over a year later I finally got to painting the back hallway and I'm definitely kicking myself for not doing this sooner!

It kind of worked out though that I waited so long because the hubs ended up putting two holes in the wall.

1. To act as an access panel for the water pipes
2. To replace the light switch that we had

The stairs leading down to our basement had these pretty sweet looking treads on them that we were so sad to part with.... (complete and total sarcasm if that wasn't caught)

So after a lot of priming....followed by a lot of white semi gloss paint for all the trim, caulking and more paint along with the fresher, brighter "Tabby" found at Menards for the walls...we have this:

When we first moved into our we installed this awesome "boob" light in the back hallway...

Which worked fine for a few years but we decided when we were renovating our bathroom and re-running electrical to switch things up a bit!  By saying we decided to switch thing up, I meant that we lost the screws for the light and the hubs wanted to get it done so he ran to the store and bought a new light!

Since everyone loves a little before and after action...

And after:

The hubs still has to figure out a cover for the hole he created, but he's pretty handy and I'm hoping sooner rather then later he'll have it done!

We both LOVE how much brighter the back hallway is.  The area is pretty small and with just a little paint I feel like the room is SO much larger!

We are both off today so we're going to try to clear out our disaster of a basement! Happy Tuesday!
