Downstairs Bedroom: Operation Particle Board Floors=Success!!

So, the hubs and I have had quite the adventure with these floors.  We thought that we could save the original hardwood floors we had in this room by patching this area....

Then we ran into this problem:

Yup, the gap between the boards was getting to a point that we couldn't patch the section anymore, so up came all the flooring and we initiated Plan B.

Last week the hubs and I made it our goal to finish these floors and together we got em' done!!

We filled the seams of the floors and any screw holes with this:

And while it worked, it was IMPOSSIBLE to sand smooth.  We went through a ton of sand paper and were left with rough patched sections still.

Pictures can be deceiving and although I put on FIVE coats of paint, the seams were still noticeable.

But it was NO match for me....

I found the stencil at Joann Fabrics for about $5.00, along with a sponge applicator.  I used the same color for the stencil as I used for the upper portion of the walls (Behr Ultra "Coco Rum") in this room to kind of tie things together more and make it feel more cohesive!

I did run into an issue as I was trying to figure out how I was going to design the stencil on the floor. I couldn't figure out the layout so I tried one way which was having the stencil butted up against each other, but soon realized I would be in that room for weeks stenciling. I then decided to sporadically place the stencil and fill in any gaps with the little flower portion of the stencil. It turned out great and saved me a ton of time. Also, filling in any gaps with the flower on the stencil allowed me to cover up any imperfections on the flooring!

To make sure that the floors were sealed and protected I put down three coats of Varathane no odor polyurethane!

Now all we have left to do is to get the quarter round installed where the boards meet the floors and figure out what we are doing with the closet doors. We have a couple ideas brewing and they will have to wait. Right now I am revealing in how awesome these floors look and how not too long ago we had old, nasty carpet. Oh any by the way, to redo our flooring it cost us approximately $269.00. I'd definitely say that is a win in our books. Bam!
